Abstract
A summary of experimental cancer research is presented from its nineteenth century origins in the microbial theory through the metabolic studies and theories of Greenstein and Warburg. A history of transplantation is given, leading the immunologic approaches to tumor initiation, progression and rejection. Concomitant and Sine comitant immunity, graft-versus-host reactions, and cell and serum mediated tumor specific immunity are reviewed.
