Abstract
When the term, "The Gold Inlay", is used today it means the cast gold inlay, but before 1907 this term meant something altogether different.
The first inlays date back to about 1880 being indeed very crude compare to those of today. All of these inlays were made with a matrix which was later filled with solder. In the Dental Cosmos of 1907 there appeared a summary of some of the techniques employed before that date.
