Abstract
It has often been said that dental caries is one of the prices we pay for our civilization and that, consequently, we will find no great evidence of this disease among those people who live "close to nature. " Apparently those men who support this theory have accepted it without requiring evidence of its validity for a growing mass of data strongly suggests that dental caries is an almost universal scourge. The investigations completed so far have succeeded in showing that the old theories were without basis in fact, but inasmuch as this phase of the study of comparative racial pathology has merely been initiated many more years of careful research will be required before any definite conclusions can be safely drawn. The purpose of this paper is merely to gather together and summarize the work which has been done in this field thus far.
