Abstract
The history and evolution of the dental hygiene profession is of importance in that it gives us a firm base that will aid in determining the future of the field. Health care in the United States is undergoing dramatic changes affecting both the public and health care providers. Health care delivery is now a big business, with all of the advantages and problems of giant corporations. It is essential that quality care is not lost or compromised in exchange for lower costs.
