Abstract

The restoration of endodontically treated teeth is dependent upon the amount of intact coronal tooth structure and the type of tooth being restored. Minimally damaged endodontically treated teeth do not always need to be restored with a post, core and/or crown. Pulpless anterior teeth can be conservatively restored with a bonded composite resin restoration rather than a crown. Retrospective studies have shown that endodontically treated anterior teeth restored with and without posts have almost identical success rates. Some studies indicate a post strengthens an intact anterior tooth5,6, while other studies suggest that the fracture resistance of an intact anterior endodontically treated tooth is not affected or even decreases with post placement.
