Abstract
So universal is the impulse to play that there is no part of the world in which play and play traditions do not exist in some form. All over the civilized globe, girls play with dolls, boys wrestle, and older people dance. The game called Blind Man’s Buff may be seen in France, in Scotland or in any other country. The game, Fox and Geese, played in one section of our country may be found slightly altered as Fox and Chickens in another section. Play is not only a part of our civilized nation but is just as much a part of uncivilized life, for explorers in the jungles of hottest Africa or on the frozen plains of Iceland will find people young and old indulging in some peculiar pastime.
