Abstract
The first example of City Planning in America was the laying out of the National Capital by the French Engineer L’Enfant. The next attempt at grouping of buildings extends .back at least to the World's Fair in Chicago. Following this, contributions to¬ ward better and broader planning were made by an organized group of architects, engineers, and landscape architects. This was followed by studies of better housing facilities, the forming of the Outdoor Art Association and the American League for Civic Improvements, both of which were later merged into the American Civic Association.
