Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to discover the methods employed by public high schools of Milwaukee county in supervising and choosing the staffs of the school newspapers. Consideration was given to the matter of scholastic requirements, methods of try outs for staff membership, advancement among staff members, requirements for and methods of choosing editors, training in journalistic writing and editing, and the type and extent of supervision given by the teacher serving as adviser for the paper. Some consideration has been given to the type of paper in each school, its size and frequency of publication, so as to judge more accurately as to the fitness and results of the methods employed. Many studies have been made concerning the worth of the school publication to staff, school, and community. Therefor this study will concern itself only with methods of functioning and supervision.
