Abstract
"The justification of any subject in the curriculum is that it enables pupils to engage effectively in desirable life activities."
If the training accomplishes this and so makes better citizens, then its inclusion is justified. Instruction in reading should take into account the reading experiences of children and adults both in school and social life. We must therefore first consider the kind of reading adults do. That will be the kind children will have to learn to do better. A great change has occurred in the educational field in the last years. The course of study has been greatly enriched. Children are given more opportunities. Textbooks have increased in every field. The skillful use of books is necessary for solving classroom problems. Therefore, reading is closely related to every school activity.
