Abstract
After playing, watching, and reading about football, the writer is convinced that the line of a football team is the deciding element which will determine the success or failure of that team. Yes linemen! Of course they are of some importance the average spectator will say, but look at that backfield, watch those runners, passers, kickers, they will win the game for us. There is a true example of the football for who will watch the Saturday afternoon game, read the Sunday morning headlines, and consequently be more convinced than ever that line play is only incidental. This is not a thesis discussing the relative importance of line- and backfield play, although the writer does not want to justify his work to the casual reader if he, like about three-fourths of the football fans, does not understand this game of football. Notice must be called to the fact that it takes eleven men to make a football team and that those thrilling, perfect plays of the late Knute Rockne's elevens could never have been dreamed of had not everyone in both the line and backfield, done their individual parts.
