Abstract

The endocrine or ductless gland system is one of the most important systems in the body of the vertebrates. The glands which comprise this system are the pancreas, which produces the insulin hormone; the thyroid, which secretes the throxin hormone; the parathyroid which produces the hormone known as the para-thormone; the adrenal glands which secretes cortin and adrenalin; the pineal gland about which very little is known; and the pituitary gland which produces many hormones, two of which, tethelin and pituitrin, are of great physiological importance. These hormones pass directly into the blood or lymph vessels and enter the circulatory stream for distribution to the various organs and systems.
