Abstract
Many historians have taken it upon themselves to defend either the Catholic or the Protestant faction between the Peace of Augsburg(1555) and the Peace of Westphalia (1648). The majority defend the Protestants with no real justification, thus making an unprejudiced and reliable source of information difficult to find. These authors, who defend the Protestants and oppose the Catholics, naturally denounce all the imperialistic policies of the Habsburgs and their House of Austria. All Habsburgs are tyrants, according to many of these historians. In the past few years, there has been an historic revival in Germany which has done much to eradicate the false impression built up by this viewpoint. The Thirty Years’ War is important, not only because of the countries involved, but because the issues and result of the war had great influence upon the thought and the history that followed.
