Abstract
In the same year that Octavius and Anthony routed the forces of Brutus and Cassius at Phillipi, there was born to Tiberius Claudius Nero and Livia Augusta a son, called after his father Tiberius Nero, and more commonly known, by reason of his later ascendancy, as Tiberius Caesar or the Emperor Tiberius. He was raised and brought to manhood in the royal household, for Octavius Augustus, the emperor, had taken to wife the mother of Tiberius, though of that union there was no offspring.
