Abstract
That the dramatic instinct is inherent in man, and has not been acquired with civilization, has been established by careful studies of the practices of primitive peoples, by observation of children’s mimicries and rhythmic actions, and by tracing the development of drama through all the ages. It has been noted that all the rudimentary elements of primitive drama are still a part of civilized dramatic art. Man is religious by nature, and he has always manifested his religion in dramatic ceremonial. It is from the religious ceremonial of primitive people that drama has evolved.
