Abstract
This is a brief account of the last half-century’s history and. development of track and field athletics in the United States. In a survey of this sort it is extremely difficult to give a detailed description of this phase of athletics mainly because it is only in the last fifty years that this sport has gained a foot-hold in America and information on the development of track in this country is meager.
