Abstract
Heredity and environment are important factors in life, but nowhere else do they have as important a role as in the life of a writer. In the works of every writer can be traced the influences of home life, of ancestors, of childhood surroundings and of friends. It has been the author’s purpose to attempt to show the great part Annette von Droste-Hulshoff’s Westphalian environment and tradition have played in her prose works.
