Abstract

I have endeavored in this essay to arrive at an appreciative understanding of the poetry of Christina Rossetti in the light of her family background and traditions, and the salient facts of her creative, spiritual, and intellectual life.

In carrying out this purpose, I have included in the sketch of Miss Rossetti's life a brief picture of the Rossetti family and Christina's close relationship to it. In the study of her works I have used what I consider her moat outstanding poem, those which best represent her poetry in all its various types and moods.
