Abstract
At the present time the endeavor of every progressive teacher is to plan school work so that pupils may master their tasks much as efficient people in the business world, master their work.
That the schools have a tendency to be too artificial is unquestionably true. There is a noticeable absence of real things. The large increase in enrollments in our schools, together with the decreased level of ability, the additional work, the demands of society upon the public schools, and the increased competition of present-day life have served to necessitate the use of more effective methods of teaching. The master teacher no longer confines his work to such traditional methods as the review lesson, the inductive lesson, the deductive lesson, the appreciation lesson, the test lesson, and the like, but is adding new methods constantly to his professional equipment which includes supervised study, socialized class procedure, visual instruction, problem and project methods, classroom provisions for individual differences, and scientific classroom testing and experimentation.
