Abstract
The English language because of its peculiar development from many sources, presents unusual spelling difficulties. The early and various contributions of the Angles, Saxons, Danes, Northmen, Normans, French, Celts, and Latins, are further confused by our continual practice of borrowing words from foreign languages. To alleviate these difficulties some attempts have been made at spelling reform.
