Abstract
During the first quarter of the twentieth century newspaper and advertising typography made an advance with the introduction of the Cheltenham face, a type face which continued in popularity up to the middle twenties of the past decade. This period has often been referred to as the Cheltenham era because of the almost complete dominance of this face in all kinds of printing.
