Abstract
In this thesis, an attempt will be made to show that the modern newspaper is justified in giving the large amount of space to sporting events that it now finds necessary. A fair and impartial view of the problem will be taken and an earnest endeavor will be made to show both sides of the question, and thus present a fair and unbiased attitude. The benefits and good points of the sports page amid its Influence will be shown as well as the abuses and evils that have crept in. An effort will be made to give a clear and concise explanation of the difference between advance sports news and press-agented publicity and ballyhoo.
