Abstract
Puppetry is extremely interesting, us a study as well as an art. It is the aim of this thesis to convey that interest to its readers. This history of puppetry is, of necessity, brief, but an attempt has been made to present a thorough study of the subject. It is divided into three parts or chapters, the first of which concerns the beginning of puppetry, and the ancestry of the little wooden actor. It is interesting to note, that puppetry is almost as old as civilization itself, and that its origin cannot be traced to any particular country, but rather, has been found in practically every one of the oldest civilizations, India, Egypt, China, Japan and Java. The story of its origin is not just a legendary tale, but is based on very definite facts.
