Abstract
Much criticism of newspapers has been on the accusation of lacking courage to carry through editorial opinion on a subject open to argument. It is not unusual, the denouncers say, to see a newspaper change its policy or retreat from its hold merely because of fear of opposition and adverse comment. The newspaper fears it will lose readers if it opposes their views, these critics claim.
