Abstract
The esters if pinic acid are in increasing demand for low temperature lubricants, and certain esters are also useful as plasticizers. In spite of the vast amount of work that has been done with pinic acid and its esters, its geometrical configuration has not yet been satisfactorily established. Stereoisomers may result from both geometrical and optical isomerism. If the cis configuration is assumed to be the dd-enantiomorph, a total of four enantiomorphs are possible.
