Abstract

However much may be said regarding the advantages of direct current, there is little doubt at present, that from the viewpoint of power generation and transmission, alternating current has considerable advantages over direct current. While such is the case, there is, and probably always will be, a need for direct current. According to our present development, this direct current is indispensable in wireless work, radio, and in the laboratory test shops, where it is necessary to work with very sensitive meters, which are inexpensive and easy enough to secure for direct current measurements, but which necessitates an elaborate and costly apparatus for accurate work on alternating currents. Up to the present, direct current is employed in all electric railroad transportation, electric elevators, radios, in the hydrolysis preparations of certain chemicals, and for charging direct current accumulators.
