Abstract

The following paper is an attempt to gather together and present in some order a few of the facts concerning the design, theory, and operation of the Tesla Coil. The writer's interest was first directed to the production of high frequency, high potential current by an article appearing on page 594 of the October, 1933 issue of the Popular Mechanics Magazine. Here the construction of a small coil was described. The writer built such a coil and was greatly disappointed with the results obtained from it. As is so frequently the case, this failure only intensified the desire to construct a larger apparatus. It was not, however, until the spring of 1935 when work on a larger coil was begun. Limited by lack of leisure time and money the work was delayed, but just before Christmas, 1937 the job was completed. The writer feels that the knowledge and the fine results obtained more than justify the effort put forth.
