Abstract
New America owes her growth and her greatness to the millions of men who were invited to her shores from all corners of the earth. They brought to this country ideals of old civilizations, blended them in a new environment, and inspired the gradual growth of a different set of institutions, social and political, which constitutes American culture today. All immigrants have contributed to the satisfactory end-result, with the exception of the yellow race, which, entering as it did after the civilization was molded on distinct lines, has become more a problem to be solved than a great contributing factor in the development of the nation. Japanese immigration, in particular, created a problem on America's Pacific Coast that has been the subject of much controversy.
