Abstract

When given this author as the topic of my thesis, I must confess I had never heard of him before. I was told that his novels would be found in the library in German, but that very little, if anything, about his life would be available. I can bear witness to the truth of this remark, for my visit to the library and my letters to prominent dealers in German and in German-American books brought meagre information.
