Abstract
The attacks on the validity of the Scholastic idea of substance have their origin in the false theory of knowledge of Descartes and its step-child the Idealism of Locke, Berkeley and Hume. The attack on the validity is to some extent due to a failure to understand the idea of substance, but to a greater extent to the false theory of knowledge that logically developed from Descartes philosophy.
