Abstract
During the past two decades the sports section of the modern newspaper has become an item of almost vital importance to the average American reader. Athletics are becoming such an integral part of our lives that interest today is universal. No doubt the World War gave athletics a tremendous impetous but in our scheme of things, that interest has a sounder foundation. Interest in athletics is fostered in the grammar school and carried on throughout high school and college life. This interest is indicated by the marked attention the world gives today to any athletic contest of importance, whether it be a ball game, a boxing match, or a golf tournament.
