Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study the grammatical usage in selected plays of the Restoration and eighteenth century. The following plays were considered because they were the most typical of age: The Provoked Wife by John Vanbrugh; The Country Wife by William Wycherly; All For Love by John Dryden; Venice Preserved by Thomas Otway; The Way of the World and Love for Love by William Congreve; The Beaux Strategen by George Farquhar; The Beggar's Opera by John Gay; The Clandestine Marriage by David Garrick; She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith and The Rivals and The School for Scandal by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.
