Abstract
Helene Bohlau is a modern German woman novelist, who was born 1n Weimar, November 22, 1859, and who is now living in Munich. Her works deal mainly with the problems of the women of her day, in the home, in the social order, and in the industrial order. The novel to be considered in this thesis is representative of the revolutionary period of her writing, and has as its subject the woman artist and her struggle for individuality in the social order.
