Abstract
In all productive industries the success of the output depends partly upon the approval of the consumer. In the fine arts this is even more evident. The finished work of the artist passes into the hands of the critic and publisher, and finally, receives the deciding test in the laboratory of public taste. Ranking the various fine arts according to their degree of dependence upon the public, we find that the drama is the most intimately connected with popular taste.
