Abstract
'!'he object of this thesis is to compare the treatment of Friars, Parsons and Priests by Shakespeare in his plays. I have endeavored to build the ''milieu" of his religious influences, but it is mostly through the mouths or the characters that we can definitely know his attitude towards religion. For this reason I have chosen Friar Laurence and· Friar John in "Romeo and Juliet," Sir Oliver Martext in "As You Like It," the priest in "Hamlet," Sir Nathaniel in "Love's Labour's Lost," Friar Francis in "Much Ado About Nothing," and others who play a less significant part.
