Abstract
This thesis has been prepared in an endeavor to present the Objectives and Activities in the Period of Preparation for Reading and in the Initial Period of Reading Instruction, and to state effectively teaching methods by periods.
A discussion of the methods which have been used in reading instruction, and a consideration of the Content thereof comprises the first chapter. This is followed by a presentation of the major objectives and activities in general. The objectives of the Period of Preparation and its desirable activities are shown in Chapters three and four. The next stage in the child's development, the Initial Period, is embraced in the remaining chapters.
