Abstract
Being interested in the development of the Western part of the United States I desired to acquaint myself further with those highways of travel which helped so much in this development. This paper attempts to give an account of the various trails used in settling the fest, their routes, their histories, their travelers, their relative importance, their direct connection with development, the play of circumstances on these highways and these paths as predecessors of the railroads.
