Abstract
The short-story as we find it today is widely read and enjoyed by all classes of readers. Late in the nineteenth century critics of literature came to recognize in the short-story a definite species, having possibilities of its own and also vigorous limitations. The form as we have it now, has been a slow evolution through the centuries of advancing civilization.
