Abstract
Rapidly changing industrial conditions and the crowding of our cities have placed a new emphasis on man's contacts with his fellow man. We live in such close interdependence in a world grown small through such factors as steamships, radios, and airplanes that our social adjustments must of necessity differ widely from those of our ancestors whose homes were almost self sustaining. Our schools have realized the necessity for a changed curriculum and are placing more and more emphasis on the social studies. But we are still asking ourselves: What shall we teach? And what place shall history have in the social study program?
