Abstract

Although the question of the right of women to the ballot was one which occupied the greater part of a century, (approximately 1850-1920) the period of true dissension might be considered to be that of the Mauve Decade. It was at this time, during the years 1890-1900 that women were beginning to reel free to take part in activities and to flaunt a spirit of independence.

In this treatise I am endeavoring to present an accurate press account of the activities of the time, and to show, through the reports or representative periodicals, its possible effect upon the progress of the suffrage movement.
