Abstract
In writing this thesis, it shall not be our purpose to set up a list of rules for the editor or reporter, there are plenty such prepared by able journalists, but to discover and examine those ethical principles which underlie the publishing of news as it is ordinarily done, through the newspapers. Every journalist worthy of the name is guided by a set of rules which he had drawn up for himself or his employer has set up for him. Generally it is a set of working rules with especial attention to the business side of journalism, but the ethics involved depend upon the principles which we shall set forth. Our thesis, therefore, will not provide a set of rules for the perfectly ethical paper, but it will set forth the principles upon which the practical journalist must base his standards if he is to publish a moral newspaper.
