Abstract

During recent years more and more attention has been paid to the supervision of the study habits and activities of high school pupils. Serious students of education have not been carried away by enthusiasm for this innovation, but they have subjected this movement to the searching test of careful analysis and statistical evaluation. It is the aim of this paper to formulate a definition of supervised study, to describe and evaluate the different methods and techniques now being employed, to arrive at conclusions on the basis of statistics which are now available, and to show that in spite of present condemnatory evidence, the movement is basically sound and peculiarly adapted to the needs of the high school history student.
