Abstract
This study has provided me with many rewards. Among all the others, two will certainly remain invaluable. The challenge of doing empirical research using Biblical material was heightened by the fact that this had never been done before--as our extensive research of the literature indicated. The other gratifying experience was to work with such people as are the members of this committee. Their knowledge and expertise were always available and greatly appreciated. But above everything else, I have been affected by them as human beings. Integrity, compassion, and a genuine love for their profession and the people involved with it will always remain as an example and a source of inspiration to me.
