Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess depressive symptomatology in adolescents placed in learning disability programs. This study emerges from clinical observation that children placed in special education programs experience negative social and peer interactions. At the present time, children with learning disabilities are receiving specialized academic instruction but limited or no intervention regarding their emotional and psychological needs. It is the hope of this investigator that this study will stimulate further research into the affective component of adolescents diagnosed with learning disabilities. Depression in learning disabled adolescents can be identified and an appropriate referral can be made for counseling services and psychological intervention. In addition, school personnel may implement expanded services regarding the special needs of this special population.
