Abstract
Attitudes towards reading have their beginnings in the home and are nurtured by the home as long as the child is a part of it. A reading family, living in a home where books are read, enjoyed and discussed, sets an example of reading that is virtually a way of life. This family usually sends to school a child who is eager to fit into the educational scheme of learning to read as soon as possible. The non-reading family is likely to send off to school a child who may not be quite as eager to put forth the concentrated effort required for becoming a successful reader.
