Abstract
Simon Bolivar's life presents one of history's most interesting and adventurous characters. His life was one of tragedy, glory and defeat . His activities covered immense areas of South American wilderness as warrior and liberator. His written records, addresses, proclamations and letters present a clear picture of the conditions in the Spanish colonies. His analysis of these conditions and of the government mark him as a wise observer and as a prophet who foresaw the coming struggle for democracy. His plans for government were far in advance of his time and to this day offer some of the clearest solutions of South American problems.
