Abstract
This year two children a week will die at their parents hand (NSPCC). Approximately 0.5 percent of all children in the United States are abused (Kempke, 1971). Physical abuse alone occurs in 100,000 children per year and results in the deaths of some 2,000. Approximately one-third of these children are school age at the time they are mistreated. Child abuse is increasingly described as reaching epidemic proportions. It is a serious problem not only in North America, but also Africa, Australia, Asia and Europe. Child abuse is a problem, but not a hopeless one. Results show that four out of five abusive parents can be brought to stop physically injuring their children.1
