Abstract
In the letter of Paul to the Colossians, there is no explicit statement of either the double-love-commandment nor the Commandment of love-one's-enemies. This does not mean that the Letter has nothing to say about this basic Christian ethical commandment. Indeed, the Letter contains six references to love. Besides Col. 3:14, "And above all these, put on love, which is the bond of perfection," the text which has been chosen as the title of this essay, the other texts which refer to love are found in different parts of the letter, at 1:4, 8, 13; 2:2; and 3:19.
