Abstract
In the guidance programs found in our secondary schools the use of psychological tests, especially the intelligence and general achievement type, play an important role. The importance is emphasized in the efforts to discover the gifted student and to direct him to educational goals that are commensurate with his ability. The progress of society has, perhaps, been slowed down a bit because the inherent ability of the superior students has not been discovered and their consequent accomplishments were lost. Discovery and direction are a necessary function of the high school today. Otherwise students of high ability will be allowed to drift through their school years with little advantage to themselves or to their community.
