Abstract

Estimating the cost of a construction project can be viewed as both an art and a science. The knowledge of science gives the insight of the mechanics of estimating where as art of estimating comes from experience and judgment. An attempt was made to explore the relationships, between the cost governing variable for a multistoried office steel frames. An equation for predesign estimating purposes was developed. The purpose was to develop a fast and economical method to predict the cost for conceptual estimating. This method gives a reasonably good estimate for predesign purposes . The method can be used efficiently by the construction industry to minimize the tedious work of computation based on the estimator's judgment and experience.
