Abstract

The evolution of American society has created an industrial and economic climate conducive to an ever-lengthening period of schooling for its youth. Prior to World War I, primary school graduation was representative of the mode of the day. Secondary education began to achieve significant popularity following that war, and high school graduation for the masses became an accomplished fact before World War II. The impetus toward still further education is a real and continuing force.
